West Fork Ballad Greeting Card by Russell Johnson
The West Fork of Oak Creek Canyon is a scenic wonder of dizzying cliffs as a pleasant stream ripples at the trails edges. Trail #108 begins just off highway 89A about 10 miles north of Sedona, AZ. This area is popular and the parking lot fills up quickly by mid-morning. With some luck, Russell Johnson landed a parking spot and ventured into this amazing side canyon during a warm fall day to enjoy the changing colors. After numerous water crossings, this lovely pool caught the artists’ eye. The feature of this painting is the wave-carved red rock, complimented by soft reflections in the quiet waters. Russell used a palette knife to expressively portray this vibrant section of the majestic West Fork.
