Hot and Cold Greeting Card By Russell Johnson
Yes, the Arizona deserts do get snow! On this day, it was exceptional in Sedona because a winter storm dropped 8 inches of snow. The contrast of snow on red rocks was amazing and beckoned the artist to paint it. Russell started his hike from the Soldier Pass trailhead and took it to Brins Mesa for panoramic views. The snow was beginning to melt in the warm sun exposing Sedona’s red rocks. Russell painted this piece entirely with a palette knife, enjoying the impressionistic qualities of texture.
