You are invited to the Prescott High School Senior Art Show April 18th to May 2nd, 2025 at 229 W. Gurley St. in downtown Prescott, AZ at The Frame & I.
Graduating Senior Art students will commemorate their achievements with an Art Show of their work at The Frame & I. A reception for the artists will be held during the Art Walk night April 25th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, refreshments will be served. The Frame & I has supported local schools for years and this is one more way to bring the community together to support our upcoming young artists. The owner at The Frame & I, Russell Johnson, is a PHS alumni and remembers the generosity of using donated framing materials to the high school when he was just starting out on his artistic career. Russell feels that we can encourage our students to continue in the arts through this exhibition. Best wishes on future endeavors go out to these graduating art students!
We really enjoy encouraging our local budding artists as a way to support our community. This past school year, we have donated picture framing on student artwork selected by their art teachers. We display the pieces in our window for a few weeks and then the art teachers show them at school before giving them to the students to take home. Here are examples of some of those projects with descriptions of the framing techniques we implemented to show them off and preserve them at the same time!
This remarkable still-life drawing is by a middle school student here in Prescott, AZ. The art is colorful and full of energy! We decided to keep the feeling of the art and not overwhelm it with a bright colored mat. The matting is an understanded white with a bright bevel accent to subtly pick up color. The special cuts in the matting were used to accent the shapes of the vases in the artwork and give a nod to “art deco”. The frame itself was where we really had some fun! We alternated colors of the same profile and produced a “stacked” frame or layered to frames together to create a wider more dimensional frame. This is really a feast for the eyes and elevates the art!
Check out this fun piece by a grade school student! The artist really had fun with placing objects and textiles in this mixed media gem. Little beads and fuzzy yarn make these piece even more adorable, if that is really possible. We used an understated vintage silver frame that had depth, so we could set the art back in the frame and give the glass space away from the art. We floated the artwork on a dark purple suede mat and then cut a double mat in pink tones, separated by a silver bead fillet. The dark purple next to the art adds contrast to make the colors “pop”. The lighter pink mat allows the art to still show up by not competing visually. This was a crowd pleaser and brought many people in to ask about it during it’s time in our front window.
This well drawn portrait of Spiderman is by a middle school student in Prescott. The art is bold and we felt it could handle some bright colors! The triple matting brings out the colors in the art and adds a touch of texture. The bottom mat is a “glazed linen” and looks a little like spider webs. The special cuts in the mat bring out the webbing some more, attracting to the Spiderman suit. The art was finished with a stacked frame, a layered red and black to really make this piece stand out. Sorry, Spiderman, you can’t escape this attractive framing!
This grade-school art piece is a watercolor with fun textures and whimsical drawings! The piece has a folksy modern vibe, so we decided to push the design elements in the art with touches in the framing. The design in the matting is called a v-groove, which is a channel cut in the mat to reveal the core turquoise color. The spiked design points your eye to the art and mimics the patterns created by the artist. Again, we used a stacked frame to create depth and highlight the art. Doesn’t the art just vibrate with energy in this custom frame design? This was a personal favorite and the art teacher “ooed” and “awed” when she picked it up.
This last piece to share is by a middle school art student and depicts a colorful sunset and hot air balloons in dark silhouette. We didn’t want to overwhelm the art with too much extra color since the art is so bold already. The frame consists of three components: the black inner frame, colorful fillets, and a white outer frame. The colorful fillets are four different colors of the same shape to bring some fun to this piece. Elegant simplicity and a touch of whimsy really does bring a feeling of happiness to this student artwork!
Welcome downtown to see the graduating Prescott High School art show at The Frame & I, and help us support these amazing artists!
Sincerely,
Russell Johnson
