Frame & I wins two Design Star 2016 framing awards!
Once again The Frame & I has brought home coveted Larson Juhl Design Star awards. We won second place in frame design for mirrors, and third place in frame design for canvas. Our framers here are excited and honored to have been selected by a group of our peers for these prestigious awards. The Design Star competition is something we really look forward to every year!
Our third place winner in the frame design for canvas category was made by our very own Francine Hackerott, last year’s 2015 Design Star grand champ! Here she is with her award…

And pictured below is the frame design that won the prize. It’s a dark Tuscany wood frame that she hand cut into a custom arch to fit a mural that had been removed from the wall it was painted on.

Our second place award was in the frame design for mirrors. Pame Lynn (not pictured) and Francine Hackerott designed and built a beautiful art noveau style swivel mirror. Ida accepted the award on behalf of the staff.

The Design Star 2016 competition had well over 500 entries from frame shops around the world. It’s run much like the Oscars, with runners up, first place and then the overall award presented. This year is the fourth year of the competition. Former Design Star grand champions hand off the torch to the current year winner. The event continues to build prestige and excitement, and you can see some of the best designers out there putting out their best work in hopes of being the next Star.

We’re excited to see what 2016 has in store for us and the picture framing industry. Congratulations to all the other framers around the world who won awards in this competition too! It was a thrill to be a part of it when Francine Hackerott brought home the first place in mirrors and the 2015 Grand Champion award.
