Check out this amazing decomposing composition! We framed up this ancient rusted Route 66 highway marker recently and it turned out great… It’s a real American artifact, rusted Route 66 in a one of a kind custom frame!
Check out how perfectly this frame compliments the old Route 66 highway sign!
We chose a frame that looks like old, weathered iron. It’s Larson-Juhl’s Anvil series. The frames have a deep enough profile to accommodate the 2″ or so of sign and mounting brackets…
Here’s a detail of how it’s mounted using custom built metal mounts and bolts. The rusty metal is really fragile and flaky, so we didn’t want to use mounts that could damage it further. The matboard we used for backing looks just like street asphalt, doesn’t it? Vroooommmm!

Travel my way, take the highway that is best.
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.
More than two thousand miles all the way.
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.
Joplin, Missouri,
And Oklahoma City is mighty pretty.
You see Amarillo,
Gallup, New Mexico,
Flagstaff, Arizona.
Don’t forget Winona,
Kingman, Barstow, San Bernardino.
When you make that California trip
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.
When you make that California trip
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six. (3x)
